PARENT FAQ's
Everything You Need to Succeed
General Information
How old does my child need to be to play?
We offer programs for athletes ages 4 to 17. NFL FLAG is open to ages 4–17, while MLS GO Soccer is open to ages 4–12.
What is "Competitive Recreation"?
It’s the best of both worlds! We provide a structured, organized environment where scores are kept and standings matter, but we maintain a focus on fundamental skill development and positive sportsmanship.
Are the programs coed?
MLS GO Soccer is currently all coed. For NFL FLAG, we offer a coed "Lil’ Rookies" 6U division, and separate boys and girls divisions for ages 8U and up to foster a focused competitive environment.
Equipment & Gear
What is provided with my registration?
- NFL FLAG: Players receive a reversible NFL team-branded jersey and a set of flags.
- MLS GO Soccer: Players receive an authentic MLS team-branded jersey, shorts, and socks.
What equipment does my athlete need to bring?
All athletes should bring water and wear athletic shoes or cleats (no metal spikes).
- NFL FLAG: A mouthguard is mandatory for all players.
- MLS GO: Players must wear shin guards for all practices and games.
Are there clothing restrictions for Flag Football?
Yes. For safety reasons, players in the NFL FLAG league must wear shorts or pants that do not have pockets. This prevents fingers from getting caught while pulling flags.
Schedule & Locations
When and where are the games?
- NFL FLAG: Played on Sundays (11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at Thomas McAlister Winget Park during the Spring and Fall seasons.
- MLS GO Soccer: Played on Saturdays (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM) at Francis Bradley Middle School during the Spring and Fall seasons.
How often do teams practice?
While specific practice times are determined by individual coaches, the league reserves the Winget Park Elementary soccer fields for NFL Flag team use on Mondays/Tuesdays (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM) and Saturdays (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM). MLS go teams practice and play on Saturdays.
League Policies
Can I request to play with a specific friend or coach?
Yes! During registration, you can enter a "Buddy Request" or "Coach Request". While we cannot guarantee every request due to roster limits and competitive balance, we do our best to keep friends together.
Does the league offer financial assistance?
Yes. Thanks to our partnership with Bojangles, we offer a Scholarship Program for families in need. Please contact us directly for an application before the registration deadline.
What happens if it rains?
Safety is our priority. We play in light rain, but if there is lightning or unplayable field conditions, we will notify families via TeamSnap and social media at least two hours before game time.
Getting Involved
What is "Powered by Bojangles"?
Bojangles is our official community partner! Their sponsorship allows us to fund our scholarship program and provide game-day enhancements like Bojangles Tailgating to make the season special for our families.
Do I need experience to be a volunteer coach?
Not at all! We provide coaches with a comprehensive playbook and digital resources. If you have a passion for mentoring youth, we would love to have you join the CPSL family.
Player/Parent Code of Conduct
